Called my mother tonight in Taipei, where it is currently 2 in the afternoon. She was packing and getting ready for her flight back to the States, where we’ll celebrate Chinese New Year together.
Mom: I hear that there is snow coming… is it a lot?
Me: No, it should be ok, snow and rain mix. Though, it looks like it’s going to be pretty cold at the end of the week.
Mom: Really?
Me: Yeah, highs only in the 20s.
Mom: … oh.
In that split second pause, I could hear her regretting her decision to come back to New York, where it is cold and wintry. I would be lying, though, if I said I didn’t hesitate thinking about how chilly it will be to go back to New York after spending the last month in the mild Bay Area…
