The Yankees were in town this weekend for a three game interleague series with the Giants. I was scrambling last week to try and score two tickets to one of the games - the idea of watching a Yankees game in a bar when they were in my city was just too sad to fathom. It was getting to the point where I was going to have to pay $$$ for tickets through Craiglist or a dude out on front of the stadium but lo! Thursday night, the Giants release additional single tickets for the weekend series. Snagged two for Saturday’s day game - Sam and I were off to our first baseball game at AT&T Park to root for the Yankees!
AT&T Park is beautiful. After all those years visiting Yankee Stadium, it was kind of exciting to visit a new-ish, modern ballpark. Being California, the concession stands at the park were so San Francisco: wine, garlic fries, gourmet pizza, fresh carved sandwiches, organic fruit…
Trouble = bases loaded with Barry Bonds at the plate (the at-bat resulted in a walk - I don’t know what I would have done if he hit a grand slam. Probably cry and dislike Bonds even more.)
Down by one run in the 9th inning, A-rod at the plate. Just before taking this photo, I joked to Sam about how funny it would be if A-rod hit a homerun and I missed it because I was busy taking pictures. A-Rod then proceeded to smack a solo shot to center field to tie the game. The man is a freak of baseball nature.
The bottom of the 13th inning, right before the Giants score and win the game :(
We had a fantastic time watching the game from our left field seats on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in San Francisco. Would have been better if the Yankees would have won but I’m still ecstatic that I got to see my Yankees during their only visit to San Francisco. It sounds weird but seeing those familiar uniforms and numbers and hearing the names made me feel a little bit closer to New York and a little more at home.
A hot dog and a scorecard - what more does a girl need at the ballgame?

What else do you need? a little sister to go with that scorecard. let me at it! Although I’m sure you ran out of space on the card before the game was over. AT least you got 1.5 games for the price of 1.
So jealous that you got to see the Yankees this season before i did. boohoo.

I made so many mistakes keeping my scorecard! Totally needed you there to help keep things in order (though, you are right: everything just went to chaos when the game went into the 11th inning.)
