Had a moment

Had a moment tonight while driving north on 9th St. on my way home from work.  I just came off 101 and was heading north on 9th St. when I got this funny feeling that I was suddenly heading north on 6th Ave between 23 and 32nd Sts in Manhattan in the late evening.  Something about the three driving lanes and 2 parking lanes, the relatively light traffic, sharing the road with a few taxi cabs for hire as the timed lights whisk us along.  On both sides of the street the sidewalks are mostly empty, the commercial offices and storefronts shuttered and dark in the after-work hours.  In the distance, I could see the spire of a tall building bathed in yellow light; it reminded me a lot of the Empire State building (but smaller, obv.)  I was tired from a long day of work and my eyes were a little heavy but in my tiredness, I felt for a few fleeting blurry moments that I was back in NY.  Why can’t I stop thinking about it and why do I miss it so much?
